Once the bore and sockets are formed and the artificial ivory rings
fitted, the outsides of our flutes are turned on a lathe. We use
the lathe's automatic feed to shape the pieces close to their final
dimensions, and then finish the turning by hand for accuracy and
elegance. Dust from the operation is collected in another part of
the building by a central vacuum system.
